first_imgAlmost 40 years after he played three games for the Republic of Ireland, a Donegal man is to be finally recognised for his sporting achievements.Gerry Meehan played alongside a number of household names including Frank Stapleton, Liam Brady and David O’Leary.Gerry played for the Republic of Ireland at schoolboy level in 1973 – 38 years ago. But he never received three caps for the games he played. Now a chance encounter with FAI boss John Delaney has led to Gerry’s dream being realised.
