Keane is talking nonsense! Everton boss Martinez hits out at Ireland number two

first_img1 Everton manager Roberto Martinez has hit out at Roy Keane, accusing him of talking “complete nonsense”.Keane, the Republic of Ireland number two, last week claimed Martinez was putting pressure on James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman not to play in international games if they have slight injuries.McCarthy missed Ireland’s qualifier against Scotland, prompting Keane to claim: “I worry that he is under lots of pressure, particularly from Everton’s point of view.“You always get the impression from Everton that Seamus and James are both barely able to walk.“So when they actually turn up and they are walking through the reception, you think ‘Praise the Lord, it’s a miracle’.”Keane, who is also assistant boss of the Toffees’ Premier League rivals Aston Villa, went on to suggest talks were required between Martinez and Ireland manager Martin O’NeillBut the comments have only served to rile Martinez, who insists he already has a good relationship with O’Neill and would never stop players from representing their countries.“It is complete nonsense,” said the Spaniard, speaking ahead of visit of West Ham on Saturday.“We have a good relationship with Martin O’Neill and we keep in touch frequently and share information.“We are always very proud when our players represent their countries, and the record shows that. Every player at our club is desperately proud to represent their countries.“A lot has been said – a lot is nonsense. The reality is the conversation between managers of the associations and ourselves has been good and will continue to be.“The only thing I care about is the players, and we had four players in the Republic of Ireland squad who are incredible characters who just love to play for their country.“It is disappointing when you see some ‘news’ that could put that in doubt. All the fans in the Republic of Ireland and other nations should know these players will give their lives to represent their countries and that is something we are very proud of.” Roy Keane last_img
