Wakapau health post receives solar system – Councillor

first_imgHealthcare professionals attached to the Wakapau health post in Lower Pomeroon, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are now able to deliver more services to residents living in that community, now that the health post is equipped with a solar system.This was according to People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Councillor Arnold Adams. Adams, speaking at the statutory meeting for the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), said the solar system will ensure proper storage of vaccines at the facility. Previously, the inability to access a reliable source of electricity was a major challenge for the health facility.After representation made by the Regional Health Officer (RHO), Afrah Khan, provision was made for the solar system to be sent to the area. However, Adams said the RHO for the region requested that a technical team visit the health post to conduct maintenance work on the system.“The system has to be maintained in an effort to ensure the system provides electricity for a long time,” Adams said.Another PPP RDC Councillor, Lyold Perreira, who resides at Wakapau, said residents in the area are happy the installation of the solar panel will take place at the health post. He said previously, the community health worker was forced to use a torchlight or laterns in cases of emergencies.last_img
