Villa star urges Austin move while Traore is linked with QPR exit

first_imgA round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving QPR and Chelsea…Aston Villa defender Micah Richards has urged his new club to make a bid for QPR striker Charlie Austin, the Birmingham Mail claims.Speculation over Austin’s future has continued since West London Sport revealed last week that Rangers had rejected an offer from Leicester. And Richards is quoted as saying Austin would make a perfect replacement for Christian Benteke if he was sold by Villa, adding: “Charlie Austin has scored a lot of goals hasn’t he?“Some of the games I watched towards the end of last season, he was winning games on his own.”Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Austin but the Daily Express now believes they will sign Anderlecht’s Aleksandar Mitrovic instead.Austin scored 18 Premier League goals for QPR last seasonTalkSport suggests Armand Traore, who hasn’t travelled with Rangers on their pre-season tour of Italy, is being monitored by French club Lille.Meanwhile, The Sun claims Chelsea will look to send Brazilian youngster Kenedy out on loan to aid his bid for a work permit, once they have completed a deal for the 19-year-old Fluminense forward. There is more speculation over apparent Chelsea interest in Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Express claims Stoke will want £9m before they allow Begovic to move to Stamford Bridge, while the Daily Star reports that Napoli have reiterated they will not sell Higuain for anything less than his release clause of £67m.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Ben & Jerry’s: How a Big Brand Explores Augmented Reality

first_imgchris cameron Tags:#Augmented Reality#NYT#web 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout 9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… Related Posts Right now, Ben & Jerry’s fans can download the company’s official iPhone app and use what it calls “Moo Vision” to unlock 3D AR experiences launched by the carton lid designs. With one of four flavors of ice cream, users can view different virtual dioramas that display scenes from small family farms where ingredients originate. By unlocking all four, users can access special Ben & Jerry’s iPhone background images – a small token that encourages participation.Looking Back on the Process Ben & Jerry’s worked with its PR firm, Edelman, and “imaginative tech” development shop Circ.us, which used metaio’s Unifeye Mobile SDK to roll out natural feature tracking on the iPhone. O’Brien says the company had a very positive overall experience working AR into its campaign – a process that only took two months from start to finish, with many changes and revisions along the way.One lessons she and the company took away from the process was to remain flexible when implementing AR or any emerging technology. The project began as a print campaign, that eventually moved to the Web and then to mobile. The AR shifted from marker-based to natural feature tracking, all making for a frantic last couple of months, she said. It was certainly worth it, as Ben & Jerry’s is now the first major brand to sport natural feature tracking on the iPhone. So much for pointing people to scoop shop locations. 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App As we have mentioned previously, the success of augmented reality depends partly on its exposure through major mainstream brands. Late last week, the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream empire took its first steps into the world of AR by adding the functionality to its iPhone app – but not in the way you might immediately assume. Today, I had the opportunity to chat with Katie O’Brien from Ben & Jerry’s about the app and how a large brand approaches unique and niche emerging technologies.Usually when a large brand experiments with mobile AR, they immediately think to provide the heads-up navigator that helps people find store locations. We saw this earlier this year when the popular sandwich chain Quiznos partnered with Layar to provide this exact functionality, but the company peppered in a bit of its own brand of fun as well. The AR Decision Ben & Jerry’s, a brand with hundreds of shops around the world, could have easily followed a similar path, but instead it has taken things a bit further. Katie O’Brien, manager of Ben & Jerry’s global digital marketing initiatives, says the company first became excited about AR when it was “blown away” by General Electric’s Smart Grid Web-based AR campaign. “Wow, one day we should do something like that,” O’Brien remembered thinking.Earlier this year, that day came. Ben & Jerry’s began planning for a campaign that highlighted the fact that many of its ingredients come from small family farms. The campaign, named “It’s what’s inside that counts,” was to feature rich visualizations and was the perfect opportunity for the company to finally jump into AR, O’Brien says.New Tech, New OpportunitiesTaking what it had seen from GE, the company originally began planning for a Web-based experience, but shifted to mobile when it learned that iOS 4.0 would allow for natural feature tracking within AR apps. The company originally struggled with the idea of how to get a special AR marker onto its existing ice cream carton designs, but the shift to mobile natural feature tracking (which could have also been accomplished on the desktop) eliminated the need for these markers. 12 Unique Gifts for the Hard-to-Shop-for People…last_img read more

5 Simple Tips for Shooting Better Corporate Videos

5 Simple Tips for Shooting Better Corporate Videos

first_imgFor a lot of us, professional video production means shooting and editing corporate videos. Whether you’ve been doing it for decades or are planning your first shoot, here are some tips to keep in mind on your next project.Top image via ShutterstockPersonally, I’ve found that I can enjoy corporate video on a level. You’re helping brands and people tell stories that they care about — but often don’t have the means (or time) to express it. It’s a good feeling to watch clients see themselves on the screen for the first time in a way they haven’t before. However, they’re not all going to be great projects. You’re going to have some ups and downs that are simply unavoidable. That being said, here are some ways to limit the downs and help your production run more smoothly.1. Script Your InterviewsImage via WikipediaWhen shooting corporate videos, the messaging is usually going to be very tightly dictated by the client. It’s not an open documentary where you have endless license to find the story. After talking with the client, you’ll know what needs to be said. When shooting talking head interviews, don’t waste time meandering around and away from the soundbites. Do your work ahead of time and script out what you want your subjects to say. This way you can go back and forth with the client to get it just right. You can still conduct a conversational interview, but know you’ll be able to lead your subject to an agreed upon (and preferably) practiced soundbite which you know you’ll be able to work with.2. Use a Two-Camera SetupImage from 12 Star MediaUnless you’re working with professional talent, the majority of your corporate videos are going to be with real people who are probably anxious and looking to get their on-air time over with — so why not help them out as best you can?Using a two-camera setup will give you much more leeway in post to make your subjects look and sound good. With two cameras, you can piece together the best parts of all their answers while cutting out all the “ummms” and awkward pauses. Trust me, you’ll be a hero to them when you turn some muttering, nervous wreck into the confident and coherent businessperson they’ll see in the final version.3. Hide Your Lapel MicAs a content-consuming society, we’ve become pretty accustomed to seeing the dark little spots on people’s collars as standard practice. While it’s forgivable, especially when rushed, it will make your video appear more professional if you can hide the lapel mic altogether. Plus, it really isn’t that hard. All you need is a little piece of gaff tape and the pluckiness to ask your subject to run it up their shirt to hide it completely from view.4. Bring Extra ClothesImage via ShutterstockWhen working with a video production company, we always told people to bring two extra shirts/outfits and two extra ties to the shoot. Unless you have room in the budget for a wardrobe department (if you do, congrats!), you’ll need to be prepared in case a subject shows up in clothing that won’t work on camera. Check all clothing for moiré patterns or awkward colors.5. Make It FunImage via Orion PicturesIn a way, your corporate video shoot will always be a fun break in your client’s usually routine (and very possibly boring) day. People will be awkward, nervous and have some very skewed premonitions of what being on camera is like. Your first goal when shooting is to get your subjects relaxed and engaged. Ask them familiar and easy questions at first, tell them a joke, bring an emergency stash of mini-wine bottles (half-joking). The more comfortable you can get them with you and the bright lights and cameras, the better they will be.Have any other tips for shooting corporate videos that you’d like to share? Washington Sundar ready to prove his mettle for India after IPL success

first_imgWashington Sundar is just a few steps away from realising his dream of playing for India after being named in the ODI squad for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka as a replacement for the injured Kedar Jadhav. Not many teenagers get a chance to share the dressing room with the senior team players but Sundar has got the opportunity to exactly that and he wants to make full use of this chance.”For any cricketer, playing for India is the ultimate dream. As an 18-year-old, I have got the opportunity to play for India and it is a great feeling. I trust a lot in my preparation and it has paid off.”Sundar however, isn’t getting overawed with players like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan around him thanks to his experience of playing with them in the Indian Premier League.”It has been my fourth day to be precise but I do not feel that I just became part of the team. I knew lot of players before, have played with Mahi bhai (Dhoni) in the IPL. They all made me feel at home,” said Sundar ahead of the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Mohali on Tuesday.Jadhav has in the past contributed with the ball whenever called upon by the captain and his part-time off-spin has provided success to the team on a few occasions. Sundar says he will try to contribute with the bat and will be ready to bowl his full quota if required.advertisement”I would definitely have to be ready to bowl 10 overs of off spin and contribute with the bat no matter what position the team is in.”Sundar had recently failed to clear the yo-yo test, which is mandatory for the players to be eligible for selection in the Indian team these days. But the 18-year-old worked hard on his fitness and had a good IPL season with the Rising Pune Supergiant which got him the attention of the selectors.”I went back, prepared a lot, trained a lot on aspects, where I needed to. It paid off. I started bowling more and spent extra time on my batting. And fitness also as you know it has become a very important aspect of this Indian team,” said the Tamil Nadu all-rounder, who made his first-class debut last year before playing his first List A game this March.”You do see a lot of wickets like that. In a domestic season, you get to play two games on tracks similar to Dharamsala. The way Mahi bhai batted was great, he went on the counter attack. Another 60-70 runs would have made a lot of difference,” said Sundar.last_img read more

Video: Louisville’s Rick Pitino Thrashed A Student Reporter During Thursday’s Press Conference

first_imgRick Pitino in a press conference.Louisville’s men’s basketball team went one-and-done in the ACC Tournament, losing its quarterfinal game to North Carolina Thursday afternoon. Following the contest, Cardinals’ coach Rick Pitino held a brief press conference with reporters. The first question came from Derek Brightwell, a reporter for the school’s student newspaper, the Louisville Cardinal. Brightwell asked Pitino why his team has struggled against the zone so much this season; Pitino was apparently not impressed with the question. The question starts at the 0:56 mark.  It is fairly clear why Louisville has struggled against the zone this season; they don’t shoot the ball well, which is typically a requirement for good offense when facing a zone defense. But Pitino pulled the I’m a big-time college basketball coach and you’re a student reporter that doesn’t know anything move, and he came across as a pretty big jerk in the process. The student reporter was apparently OK with it, though. Got thrashed by Pitino at the presser, but the @CardChronicle comment section was talking about me. 56 lakh housing units worth 451 lakh cr delayed in 7 cities

56 lakh housing units worth 451 lakh cr delayed in 7 cities

first_imgNew Delhi: Around 5.6 lakh housing units, worth Rs 4.5 lakh crore in seven major cities are running behind the delivery timelines mainly due to demand slowdown and fund diversion by developers, according to property consultant Anarock. These 5.6 lakh flats were launched before 2013 in these seven cities — National Capital Region (NCR), Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. “The top 7 cities currently have a total stock of 5.6 lakh delayed housing units worth a whopping Rs 4,51,750 crore,” Anarock founder and chairman Anuj Puri said. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal”Lakhs of buyers across top cities particularly MMR and NCR – have been left in limbo, leading to inconceivable mental stress and financial pain,” he added. As per the Anarock data, the NCR and MMR account for 72 per cent of the total stuck housing units. In MMR, as many as 1,92,100 apartments worth Rs 2,17,550 crore are delayed, while the NCR has 2,10,200 units worth Rs 1,31,460 crore running behind the schedule. The main southern cities of Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad together account for a mere 10 per cent of the overall stuck housing units of a total worth of Rs 41,770 crore. The Southern cities have predominantly been driven by service-class end-users, leaving limited scope for developers to be unprofessional. Also Read – Food grain output seen at 140.57 mt in current fiscal on monsoon boost”It has become a ‘chicken and egg’ situation – buyers have understandably stopped releasing funds to builders, and builders claim they have no funds to complete construction,” he added. Every delayed project results in cost overruns which compound the funding crunch even further. Anarock chairman said the lack of project clearances for whatever reason also contributes to the piling up of housing stock. In the pre-RERA era, many builders launched greenfield projects without the requisite approvals in place, resulting in their projects getting stuck. The consultant said that by amending the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and treating buyers at par with banks and other creditors, the government has safeguarded the interests of affected buyers. “Whichever government is in power after the upcoming general elections, it has a mammoth task to complete. Delayed projects have severely weakened faith in under-construction properties and reviving buyers’ trust is a herculean task,” Puri said. If buyers stop purchasing under-construction properties, builders would have a far more challenging time to get funds from external sources for project construction, he added.last_img read more
